Agfa Mamoray Screen and Cassette Care and Cleaning

As with all precision products, Agfa Mamoray screens and cassettes require proper care and routine cleaning. Failure to follow these recommendations may lead to premature product failure and will void Agfa’s product warranty.

Recommended Screen and Cassette Care
Handle cassettes with care; avoid dropping, chemical contamination or sharp impact. Specifically:

Avoid contamination of the screen surface. Should contamination occur, clean the screen immediately.
Wash your hands or wear gloves when handling screens to avoid contamination.
Never use hand lotions or sunblock cosmetics prior to handling screens or x-ray film.
Prior to handling open cassettes, remove rings or other jewelry that could damage the screen.
When removing films from cassettes, do not use fingernails to separate the film from the screen.
Do not stack or place other objects on open cassettes.
When feasible, utilize daylight humidifiers only in the dry, winter months.

Recommended Screen and Cassette Cleaning
The exterior of Agfa Mamoray cassettes should be cleaned and disinfected only with products that are clearly labeled “safe for use on plastics.”
The Electron Beam Cured topcoat that protects Agfa Mamoray screens enables us to recommend the use of alcohol-based cleaning systems. Used properly, these products clean more effectively than water-based cleaners, but screen damage can occur if they are used too often or incorrectly. Use wet cleaning systems only for weekly cleaningsor as needed to remove stains or stubborn contaminants.
Polynit Wipers and anti-static brushes are very effective for as-needed “dry cleaning.”

Weekly Cleaning Procedure
    1. Coordinate film loading so that all cassettes are empty. Do not return unused film to the film bin.
2.Inspect and clean the area where cleaning will be conducted so that it is free of dirt and clutter.
3.Outside this cleaning area, dust the screens and the entire inside of cassettes with an anti-static brush.
4.Using a cloth moistened with water, wipe down exterior of cassettes and place in the cleaning area.
5.Place a small amount of Curix Screen Cleaner on a Polynit Wiper. Wipe the inside cover of the cassette and the center of the screen using gentle, overlapping strokes.
6.Clean the edges of the screen, wiping parallel to the edge to avoid damage.
7.Wipe the screen and the interior of the cassette again with a clean, dry, Polynit Wiper to remove any residual solvent and particulates.
8.Stand the open cassette on its end, and allow it to dry for a minimum of 10 minutes.
9.Place both “wet” and “dry” cleaning cloths in separate, labeled plastic bags to keep them contaminant free and available for re-use.

Use only Agfa-recommended Cleaning Materials:
    Agfa Curix (anti-static) Screen Cleaner
Agfa part #EFCVV (pack of 4 dispenser bottles, 500 ml each)
    Polynit Wipers
Agfa part #EOLCP (box of 4 pouches, 25 wipers per pouch)
Anti-static screen and cassette cleaning brushes

Note:

    1. NEVER use gauze pads or other rough materials to clean intensifying screens.
    2. Do not apply screen cleaner directly to the screen.
    3. Use only enough cleaner on the cloth to dampen the screen, and allow the screen to completely air-dry before closing cassette. (Prevents film artifacts and/or screen staining and damage)
    4. To eliminate dust and static, filter darkroom air and maintain humidity between 30% and 50%.
